Digimon Adventure V-Tamer 01 (デジモンアドベンチャーVテイマー01, Dejimon Adobenchā V-Teimā 01) is a popular Digimon manga series. It was the longest-running Digimon manga, appearing in V Jump magazine. The story ran for many years, from November 21, 1998, to August 21, 2003, with fifty-eight chapters.

This manga introduces a character named Taichi. While he looks and acts a lot like the Taichi from the Digimon Adventure TV show, they are actually from different worlds. This manga takes place in a special "alternate universe" within the Digimon stories.

Story of V-Tamer 01

The story begins with a boy named Taichi who loves playing with his V-Pet. This is a virtual pet device where you raise Digimon. Taichi wants to join a V-Pet tournament, but he's told his Digimon isn't "real." After the tournament, Taichi battles the winner, Neo Saiba. Their fight ends in a tie, which is supposed to be impossible!

Soon after, Taichi is called to the Digital World by a powerful Digimon called Lord MagnaAngemon. There, Taichi finally meets his mysterious V-Pet Digimon in real life: Zeromaru the Veedramon. With the help of a friendly Gabumon named Gabo, Taichi and Zeromaru travel to Lord MagnaAngemon's castle. Lord MagnaAngemon asks Taichi for help. He needs Taichi to find five special Tamer Tags and defeat the evil Digimon Daemon, who is causing trouble in the Digital World.

As Taichi and Zeromaru go on their adventure, other humans are also brought to the Digital World by Daemon. These include Neo Saiba, his sister Rei Saiba, Sigma, Mari Goutokuji, and Hideto Fujimoto. Neo is chosen by Daemon to raise a super-powerful Digimon from a special egg. Rei has a "Digimental" that can make Daemon's Digimon even stronger. The others, called the Alias III, are meant to help Neo and Daemon.

Hideto's partner is a strong Omnimon named Omega. This Digimon is formed by two other Digimon, WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, joining together. Mari's partner is a Rosemon named Rose, and Sigma's partner is a Piedmon named Pie. Most of these characters start as villains but later become friends with Taichi. Rei is the only one who isn't evil and doesn't have a Digimon partner.

Main Characters

Taichi Yagami

Taichi is the main hero of the V-Tamer 01 manga. He's a brave boy whose V-Pet Digimon was thought to be a mistake. But when he arrived in the Digital World, he found out that this "mistake" was actually his partner, Zeromaru! Lord MagnaAngemon brought Taichi to the Digital World to help fight the evil Daemon. Taichi agreed and, with Gabo as his guide, set out to find the five V-Tags.

He faced many challenges, including powerful enemy Digimon and even other human Tamers like Neo Saiba and the Alias III. However, the Alias III eventually joined him. After Taichi and Zeromaru defeated Daemon, Taichi and the other children returned to the Real World. Taichi also had special team-up adventures with other Digimon heroes like Davis Motomiya, Ryo Akiyama, and Takuya Kanbara.

Zeromaru

Zeromaru is Taichi's loyal and powerful Digimon partner. He is a Veedramon. Zeromaru was initially thought to be a "glitch" in Taichi's V-Pet. However, he proved to be a very special and strong Digimon. Zeromaru grows incredibly powerful throughout the story. He helps Taichi on his quest to find the V-Tags and defeat Daemon. Zeromaru's strength and bond with Taichi are key to saving the Digital World.

Neo Saiba

Neo Saiba is a skilled but initially evil Tamer in V-Tamer 01. He is Rei Saiba's brother. Neo first had a Megadramon and a Greymon. He even rejected his Greymon when it kept losing battles. When he started working for Daemon, Neo gained control of many powerful Digimon. These included a Devimon and an Ogremon that could combine into SkullSatamon.

Neo used his Digimon to defeat many of Taichi's enemies, like Etemonkey. He also had a MetalGreymon and a Ghoulmon. Later, Daemon gave Neo a super-strong Digimon named Arcadiamon. Neo used Arcadiamon to defeat Pie the Piedmon and Rose the Rosemon. Neo even attacked Lord MagnaAngemon's castle with an army of Digimon.

Arcadiamon defeated powerful Digimon like Leo and Seraphimon (Lord MagnaAngemon's Mega Form). Eventually, Neo's sister Rei helped him see the error of his ways. Neo and Taichi stopped fighting and became friends. Neo even saved Taichi's life later on. After their adventure, Neo won the next D-1 tournament and stayed friends with Taichi and the Alias III.

Daemon

Daemon is the main villain behind all the chaos in the Digital World. He was building a huge army of evil Digimon to take over the Digital World. Daemon was also raising a super-powerful Digi-Egg in his castle. He realized he needed a human Tamer to unlock the egg's full power. That's when he found Neo. Daemon also planned to invade the human world after conquering the Digital World.

However, Neo betrayed Daemon and had Arcadiamon absorb Daemon's data. It seemed like Daemon was gone, but this was part of his plan! He wanted to possess Arcadiamon. After Neo changed his ways, Arcadiamon broke apart, and Daemon appeared again. He became even stronger, reaching an "Ultra" level after absorbing Arcadiamon's data. But in the end, Zeromaru, in his UlForceVeedramon Ultra form, finally defeated Daemon.

C'mon Digimon

C'mon Digimon is a short, special manga story created in the summer of 1997. It showed battles between Digimon that were like holograms. This manga was published as a bonus in the second volume of V-Tamer. It was later revealed that Kentarou, the hero of C'mon Digimon, was the main inspiration for Taichi, the hero of V-Tamer and the leader of the Chosen Children in Digimon Adventure.

Exclusive Digimon

These Digimon only appeared in C'mon Digimon:

  • Bun - Bun is the main Digimon in this manga. His level, type, and powers are a bit of a mystery. In some translations, he was called Bunomon.
  • Deathmon - Deathmon is the evil Digimon in the manga. He had a scary power: he could transform into "death" versions of the Digimon he defeated. This allowed him to become forms like DeathAirdramon, DeathDevimon, DeathMetalGreymon, DeathMeramon, and DeathTyrannomon.
