Digimon Tamers is the third exciting series in the Digimon world, made by Toei Animation. It's all about a group of kids called Digimon Tamers who team up with special digital monsters called Digimon. The characters were designed to be like normal elementary school students who go on a huge adventure over a year.

- Takato is a 10-year-old boy whose parents own a bakery. He loves playing card games and drawing his own Digimon. One day, he finds a special Blue Card. He uses it on his Digivice, and his drawing, Guilmon, comes to life! As more Digimon start appearing in their world, Takato bravely joins the fight. Because Guilmon came from his imagination, Takato feels a strong connection to him. They really understand each other. Their bond becomes super strong when Takato and Guilmon can merge together to become the powerful Gallantmon. Takato becomes the leader of their group.

- Rika is also 10 years old and is a champion at the Digimon Card Tournament. People even call her the "Digimon Queen"! At first, she has a tough and lonely personality. She believes that Digimon are only for fighting to become the strongest. Her partner is Renamon. Takato helps her learn that Digimon are more than just fighters. She learns about friendship and caring.

- Henry is a 10-year-old student from Takato's school. He is half-Japanese and half-Chinese. In the Japanese version, his friends call him Jian (ジェン, Jen). Henry is very patient and mature for his age because he often takes care of his younger sister, Suzie. He's also good with computers because his dad is a computer engineer. Henry's partner is Terriermon. He doesn't like hurting others, so he's often hesitant to fight. Henry also practices Tai Chi.

- Guilmon is a velociraptor-like Digimon with a special digital symbol on his chest. Takato drew him, and a Blue Card brought him to life. At first, Guilmon acts like a young child. He doesn't know the difference between humans and Digimon, often calling Takato "Takatomon." He loves bread and has a super keen sense of smell, which helps him find other Digimon. He's very loyal and protective of Takato.

- Terriermon is a cute, one-horned, lop-eared rabbit Digimon. He has a relaxed personality and often says "Momantai," which means "take it easy" or "no problem" in Cantonese. Henry chose Terriermon while playing a video game. Terriermon was originally a wild Digimon who lived by the rule of "survival of the fittest." Henry often hides Terriermon from his family, sometimes pretending he's a stuffed toy for his sister, Suzie.
- Gargomon (ガルゴモン, Garugomon, Galgomon): Terriermon's Champion form. He's a bipedal rabbit warrior with cybernetic Gatling guns on his arms.

- Renamon is a yellow fox Digimon who acts like a ninja. She can disappear quickly and move very fast. Unlike Guilmon and Terriermon, she can take care of herself when Rika is at school. Renamon doesn't remember her life before meeting Rika. At first, she only saw Rika as a way to become stronger. But as she spends time with the other Tamers, she starts to question her beliefs about fighting. Rika and Renamon learn to understand each other better and become true partners.

- Calumon is a small, fairy-like Digimon. He has a special power: he can make other Digimon digivolve! At the start of the series, Calumon thinks the human world is just a game. His ears grow bigger when he's happy, which lets him fly. Calumon doesn't digivolve himself; he is the power of digivolution in a Digimon form. He helps Jeri when she is sad and trapped.

Zhuqiaomon
Voiced by: Shūichirō Moriyama (Japanese); Tony Pope (English) Zhuqiaomon (スーツェーモン, Sūtsēmon, Zhuquemon) is the guardian of the Digital World's South. He is based on the Suzaku. He is very serious about protecting the Digital World, even if his methods are sometimes harsh. He initially didn't trust humans but later joined forces with the Tamers to fight the D-Reaper.
Azulongmon
Voiced by: Jūrōta Kosugi (Japanese); Michael McConnohie (English) Azulongmon (チンロンモン, Chinronmon, Qinglongmon) is the guardian of the Digital World's East, based on the Seiryuu. He has power over thunder and lightning. He is the most friendly of the Sovereigns and believes in humans. He helped convince Zhuqiaomon to work with the Tamers.
Ebonwumon
Voiced by: Jōji Yanami (Japanese); Dave Wittenberg (English) Ebonwumon (シェンウーモン, Shen'ūmon, Xuanwumon) is the guardian of the Digital World's North, based on the Genbu. He is the oldest Sovereign and has two heads. He is kind-hearted.
Baihumon
Voiced by: Shinichi Kotani (Japanese); Steve Kramer (English) Baihumon (バイフーモン, Baifūmon) is the guardian of the Digital World's West, based on the White Tiger Byakko. He has power over steel. He was fighting the D-Reaper when Ryo arrived.

D-Reaper
Voiced by: Yoko Asada (Japanese); Bridget Hoffman (English) The D-Reaper (デ・リーパー, D-Rīpā), also called the "True Enemy," is a dangerous digital lifeform. It started as a program created in the 1970s to delete too much data. It grew and became a pinkish-red "grey goo" that wanted to reset the Digital World. When Digimon started digivolving more, it woke up and became a huge threat. It can create "ADRs" (Agents of the D-Reaper) which are like its extensions. The D-Reaper captured Jeri and used her emotions. It turned the Shinjuku Metropolitan building into its base and tried to take over the human world. The Tamers and their Digimon had to work together to stop it.
- ADR-01: Jeri-Type (ADR-01: 樹莉タイプ, ADR-01: Juri Taipu): A spy agent that looked like Jeri to understand human thoughts.
- ADR-02: Searcher (ADR-02: サーチャー, ADR-02: Sāchā): An agent that gathers information.

The D-Reaper eventually transformed into the Mother D-Reaper (マザー デ・リーパー, Mazā D-Rīpā), a giant mass of wires and cords. It tried to merge with its other half in the Digital World to destroy both worlds. But the Tamers used a special program called Juggernaut to shrink the D-Reaper back into a harmless program.
DigiGnomes
DigiGnomes are digital creatures with the power to grant wishes. They were created in 1980, making them the first artificial digital creatures. They helped hide Calumon's power from the D-Reaper. They also helped Shibumi create the Blue Cards for the Tamers. Some DigiGnomes even sacrificed themselves to help all Digimon reach their Mega Forms during the final battle.
Ark/Grani
The Ark was a special vehicle created by the Monster Makers to bring the Tamers back from the Digital World. It was designed with artificial intelligence, like the Digimon. It later became sentient and was turned into a weapon called Grani, armed with a powerful blaster. Grani became Gallantmon's flying steed and eventually fused with Takato and Guilmon to form Gallantmon Crimson Mode.
Behemoth
Behemoth is Beelzemon's powerful motorcycle. It could make anyone who rode it become destructive. Beelzemon used it as his main vehicle until Gallantmon destroyed it.
