Dilson has played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for teams like the New York Mets, Cincinnati Reds, and Baltimore Orioles. Currently, he is a free agent, meaning he is not signed with any team.
Dilson Herrera's Baseball Journey
Dilson Herrera started his baseball career at a young age. He has played for many different teams. This includes teams in the major leagues and other professional leagues around the world.
Starting with the Pirates
In 2010, Dilson signed with the Pittsburgh Pirates. He was an international free agent. This means he was signed from another country. He received a $220,000 bonus for signing.
For three years, Dilson played in the Pirates' minor league system. He played for teams like the A-class West Virginia Power. In 2013, he even represented the Pirates in the All-Star Futures Game. This game features top young players.
Playing for the New York Mets
On August 27, 2013, Dilson was traded to the New York Mets. This trade also included another player, Vic Black. The Mets sent Marlon Byrd and John Buck to the Pirates. Dilson did very well in his first season with the Mets organization. He was promoted to a Double-A team.

The 2015 Season
On May 1, 2015, Dilson was called up to the Mets again. He played second base because David Wright was injured. Dilson himself got injured on May 15. He fractured his middle finger. He was placed on the disabled list (DL).
He returned from the DL on June 11. On June 30, he was sent back to the minor leagues. This was to make room for Daniel Murphy, who was returning. Dilson was called back up to the Mets on September 7. This was due to expanded rosters later in the season.
In 2015, Dilson played in 31 games. He had a batting average of .211. He hit 3 home runs and had 6 RBIs. He also stole 2 bases. During the season, Dilson was seen wearing "rally cups" on his ears. This was a fun gesture that fans and players liked.
Moving to the Cincinnati Reds
On August 1, 2016, the Mets traded Dilson to the Cincinnati Reds. He was traded along with Max Wotell. In return, the Mets received Jay Bruce. Dilson played in the Reds' minor league system. On July 5, 2018, he was called up to play for the Reds. He became a free agent on November 3, 2018.
Back with the New York Mets
On November 29, 2018, Dilson signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets again. He was invited to Spring Training. He opted out of his deal on July 3, 2019, but then signed back with the Mets on July 5. On September 1, he opted out of his minor league deal again. This made him a free agent.
Playing for the Baltimore Orioles
On December 5, 2019, Dilson signed a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles. He was added to the active roster on September 1, 2020. However, he was designated for assignment on September 8. This means the team removed him from the active roster. He became a free agent on September 28. After the 2020 season, he played for Colombia in the 2021 Caribbean Series.
