Her Story
Dima Nashawi first studied sociology at Damascus University in Syria. Later, she went to King's College London in the United Kingdom to earn a Master's degree in Art.
Art for a Cause
In 2001, Dima began creating graphic designs and comics. Her art often tells stories and shares important messages. In 2010 and 2011, she held her first art shows. These shows helped refugees through the UNHCR. She also used her art to support children with cancer, working with a Syrian group called Basma.
Dima's art focuses on remembering Syria's past and people's personal experiences. She uses her art to speak up for people who are missing or unfairly held. She wants to help people remember the difficult times Syria has faced. Her goal is to help shape a positive future for the country.
Becoming a Clown
In February 2014, Dima joined a group called Clown Me In (CMI). With this group, she became a street clown. Her clown name is Nseet, which means "I forgot" in Arabic. Her clown character playfully acts like she has a bad memory. This helps her spread happiness and laughter to people.
She worked as a clown until September 2015. Then, she traveled back to London for more studies. She earned another Master's degree in arts and cultural management from King's College University. In February 2017, Dima returned to Beirut. She rejoined Clown Me In and also became part of the Asfari Institute for Civil Society and Citizenship.
