His Life and Career
Early Life and Banking
Dimitrios Maximos was born in Patras, Greece, on July 6, 1873. He started his career in banking quite young, in 1891. He worked at the National Bank of Greece, which is a very important bank in Greece.
He worked his way up and became the governor of the bank in 1920. He held this important position for two years before leaving in 1922.
Stepping into Politics
After his banking career, Maximos became involved in politics. From 1933 to 1935, he served as the Foreign Minister. This means he was in charge of Greece's relationships with other countries. He worked in the government led by Panagis Tsaldaris.
Prime Minister of Greece
One of his most significant roles was becoming the Prime Minister of Greece in 1947. The Prime Minister is the head of the government. He served in this role for a period after World War II.
The Maximos Mansion
Dimitrios Maximos passed away on October 17, 1955. His former home in central Athens is now very famous. Since 1982, this house, known as the Maximos Mansion, has been the official office and home for the Prime Minister of Greece. It's a bit like the White House in the United States, but for the Greek Prime Minister!
