A Look at Dingwall Academy's History
The first Dingwall Academy building was constructed in the 1930s. Over many years, new parts were added to it. However, by the early 2000s, the old building needed a lot of repairs. It was also quite expensive to keep it running.
Building a New School
In 2005, a big decision was made to build a brand new school. This project cost around £28 million. The new building was planned for the old sports field, right next to the existing school. Construction started in the middle of 2005.
The new Dingwall Academy was finished and given to the Highland Council on May 20, 2008. Students were able to start learning in the new building on June 9, 2008.
The modern school has many different classrooms. These rooms are designed with special equipment for various subjects. It also includes facilities that the whole community can use. For example, there's a drama studio, sports pitches that can be used in any weather, and a library. This library is open to both students and people from the local area.
Sporting Achievements
Dingwall Academy has also had success in sports. In 1994, the school's under-18 football team won a major competition. They won the Scottish Schools' Football Shield. They beat Cardinal Newman 1–0 in the final match. This exciting game took place at Hampden Park in Glasgow. It was a special win because they were the first school from the North of Scotland to win this senior shield.
