DISH is a small town in Denton County, Texas, United States. In 2020, about 437 people lived there. The town started in June 2000 and was first called Clark. In 2005, the community changed its name to "DISH." This was part of a deal with the satellite TV company Dish Network.

History of DISH

The town was originally named Clark. It was named after its founder, Landis Clark. He officially started the town in June 2000. He was also the first mayor.

In November 2005, the town made a special agreement. They agreed to change their name to DISH. In return, all residents received free basic TV service for ten years. They also got a free digital video recorder from Dish Network.

Air Quality in DISH

Around 2005, energy companies started drilling for natural gas near DISH. Some residents were concerned about smells and possible health effects. These concerns were linked to gases from the wells.

The town spent money to test the air quality. The tests found higher levels of some chemicals. After these findings, the energy companies made changes.

The Texas Department of State Health Services also checked the air. In 2010, they shared their findings for DISH. They tested air, blood, and urine samples. Their study concluded that there was no clear sign of widespread exposure to chemicals from gas wells. They suggested other things might explain some findings. These included smoking or products used at home.

The state then put an air monitoring station in DISH. In 2012, this station showed that air pollution levels were generally within government safety limits.

Population of DISH

The population of DISH has grown over time. In 2010, there were 201 people living there. By 2020, the population had increased to 437.
