Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is a special camping resort at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It's found in the Magic Kingdom Resort Area, close to the famous Magic Kingdom park. This resort opened a long time ago, on November 19, 1971.

The resort is right next to Bay Lake, a large body of water. It's also near Disney's Wilderness Lodge, another Disney hotel. Fort Wilderness used to have its own water park called Disney's River Country, but that park is now closed.

Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground has a fun, rustic theme. It feels like a big forest adventure! The resort covers 750 acres of pine and cypress trees. You'll find winding roads that lead to different parts of the resort.

A large part of Fort Wilderness is made up of campsites. Here, guests can bring their own tents or recreational vehicles (RVs) to stay. There are also permanent cabins that look like log cabins. These cabins offer another way to enjoy the camping experience.

Places to Eat

Fort Wilderness has some great places to grab a bite. One popular spot is the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue. This is a dinner show where you can enjoy food and live entertainment.

You can also find a buffet called Trail's End. For something quick and easy, there's an RV-themed food truck. It offers different meal options for guests.

Fun Activities

There's so much to do at Fort Wilderness! The resort has playgrounds for kids to enjoy. There are also two heated swimming pools, perfect for a swim. One pool, called the Meadow Swimmin' Pool, has a cool winding water slide. This slide even includes the water tower from the old River Country water park.

You can go fishing or try horseback riding. There's a paved and sand trail that's about 2.3 miles long. It's great for exercising and goes all the way to Disney's Wilderness Lodge.

At the bike barn, you can rent canoes, kayaks, bikes, and tennis rackets. If you want to learn something new, you can even make reservations for archery lessons. At the marina, you can rent pontoon boats and other watercraft. This lets you explore the beautiful waterways of Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon.

Nighttime Entertainment

Near the beach, you can visit the Tri-Circle-D Ranch. This is where the horses that work at Magic Kingdom live! You can also go on trail rides, carriage rides, or hay rides for an extra cost.

Every night, the campground hosts the Campfire Sing-Along with Chip 'n' Dale presented by Pop Secret. A Disney cast member leads songs in an outdoor area. The famous characters Chip 'n' Dale join in, signing autographs and taking photos with guests. There are two fire pits where you can roast marshmallows and make s'mores. After the sing-along, a Disney movie is shown on a big outdoor screen. The food truck is also there, selling snacks and s'mores kits.

At night, you can see the amazing Electrical Water Pageant from Clementine's beach. You can also watch the Happily Ever After Fireworks Spectacular from Magic Kingdom.

Bringing Your Dog

Did you know that dogs are allowed to camp at Fort Wilderness? They can stay on certain pet-friendly loops for a small extra fee each night. However, dogs are not allowed in pop-up trailers or tents.

Getting Around

Inside the resort, you can get around using Disney Transport buses. These buses take guests to different areas of Fort Wilderness.

A long time ago, from 1973 to 1980, there was a special train here. It was called the Fort Wilderness Railroad. This narrow-gauge train was 3.5 miles long. It used to take guests to different campsites and to the old River Country water park.
