Divaldo Franco's Life Story
Divaldo Pereira Franco was born on May 5, 1927, in Feira de Santana, Bahia, Brazil. From a very young age, he showed signs of being a medium. At first, his father and older brothers didn't understand this and thought it was strange. He was able to convince his mother when he told her he saw the spirit of his grandmother, who had passed away. Later, his sister Nair died in 1939, and he believed he saw her spirit asking for help.
Divaldo learned more about the Spiritist doctrine after a medium helped him get better from a health problem. This medium told him he had strong mediumship abilities. Because of this, he moved to Salvador in 1945. In Salvador, he founded a center that later became the Mansão do Caminho ("Mansion of the Way") in 1952.
His Books and Messages
Many of Divaldo's books were written through a process called "psychography." This is when a medium writes messages that they believe come from spirits. A large part of his psychographed works are said to be from a spirit named Joanna de Ângelis. Divaldo believed Joanna de Ângelis had lived many lives before, including as famous historical figures.
In 1964, Joanna de Ângelis chose some of her messages, and they were put together into a book called Messe de Amor ("Harvest of Love"). This was the first book Divaldo Franco published. He published more than 250 books in total. These books covered many topics like philosophy, history, and psychology.
Recognition and Opinions
Divaldo Franco received an important award called the Order of Rio Branco in 2022 for his work. He was known for sharing his personal opinions on certain social ideas. Some people in the spiritist community had different views on his opinions, but many leaders said that he had the right to express himself.
His life was even turned into a movie! He was played by actors Bruno Garcia and Ghilherme Lobo in the 2019 Brazilian film Divaldo: O Mensageiro da Paz.
Divaldo Franco passed away on May 13, 2025, in Salvador. He was 98 years old.
