Dmitry Svetushkin was a talented Moldovan chess player. He was born on July 25, 1980, and sadly passed away on September 4, 2020.
He became a Grandmaster in 2002. This is the highest title a chess player can get. Dmitry Svetushkin often played for the Moldovan national team. He competed in big events like the Chess Olympiad and the European Team Chess Championship. At the 2014 Chess Olympiad, he played incredibly well. His performance was one of the best on his board.

Winning National and International Titles
In 2000, Dmitry Svetushkin won the Moldovan Chess Championship. This made him the best chess player in his home country. He also did very well in international events.
- In 2003, he shared first place at the Ikaros Chess Festival. He tied with Johan Hellsten and Marcin Szymański.
- In 2008, he won the 2nd Gap Open tournament.
- In 2010, he tied for first place at a tournament in Palaiochora. He shared the win with Yuriy Kryvoruchko and Alexander Zubarev.
Later Tournament Successes
Dmitry Svetushkin continued to achieve success in the following years.
- In 2012, he won two big tournaments. He won the 2nd International Tournament Isthmia in Vrachati. He also won the 17th Bora Kostić Memorial. This was a tough tournament where everyone played against each other.
- In 2017, he came in second place at the 19th Sants Open in Barcelona. He also won the 3rd Ceramica Corund Open.
His Passing
Dmitry Svetushkin passed away in the evening of September 4, 2020. He was 40 years old. He died in Chișinău, Moldova.
