Making the Show: Production Secrets
The Doctor Snuggles show was made by teams from both Britain and the Netherlands. The animation work was shared between two studios. Topcraft in Japan animated the first six episodes and some others. DePatie-Freleng from the United States worked on the rest.
The famous actor Peter Ustinov was the voice of Doctor Snuggles in the English version. He also narrated the show. Other voices included Olwen Griffiths and John Challis. The show first aired in 1980. It had 13 episodes, each about half an hour long.
The show's ideas came from original drawings by British artist Nick Price. Jeffrey O'Kelly created the original stories. Writers like Richard Carpenter and John Halas wrote the TV scripts. Two special episodes were written by Douglas Adams and John Lloyd. These episodes talked about important environmental issues.

Doctor Snuggles' Adventures: Plot Summary
The show follows the adventures of Doctor Snuggles. He is a kind, older gentleman. He lives in a cozy home with his housekeeper, Miss Nettles. Doctor Snuggles loves to invent things!
Throughout the series, he creates many amazing gadgets:
- A robot helper named Mathilda.
- A "wormmobile" for traveling underground.
- A machine to bring back the colors of the rainbow.
- A special device to help cheer people up.
- A lotion that protects against fire.
- Even a time machine!
Doctor Snuggles travels in unique ways. He uses a talking pogo-stick that also works as an umbrella. He also has a spacecraft made of wood called the Dreamy Boom Boom.
But it's not all easy for Doctor Snuggles. He often has to deal with the crazy magician Professor Emerald. Professor Emerald is his main enemy!
Home Video Releases
You can find Doctor Snuggles on DVD. On July 4, 2005, a company called Firefly Entertainment released a special box set in the UK. This set is called Doctor Snuggles - The Complete Collection. It includes all thirteen episodes of the series.
The show was also released on VHS tapes in Sweden. These tapes were designed so that when you put five of them together, they formed a picture!
