The DocuSign Tower, once known as the Wells Fargo Center, is a tall building in Seattle, Washington, in the U.S.. It was finished in 1983 and was first called the First Interstate Center. This building has 47 floors and is about 175 meters (574 feet) tall. It is currently the ninth-tallest building in Seattle.

The tower has 24 elevators and over 87,400 square meters (940,766 square feet) of space for offices. The company The McKinley Architects designed the building.

A Building with Many Names

The DocuSign Tower has had a few different names over the years. When it was built in 1983, it was called the First Interstate Center. Later, in 1996, Wells Fargo took over the company that owned the building. Because of this, the building's name changed to the Wells Fargo Center.

In 2013, a Canadian company called Ivanhoé Cambridge bought the building. Then, in 2015, a company named DocuSign started renting offices there. DocuSign grew its space in the building and, in 2020, they got the rights to name the tower. That's why it's now called the DocuSign Tower.

How the Tower Looks

The outside of the DocuSign Tower is made of steel, glass, and polished pink granite. It has a unique six-sided shape. The glass is tinted, which means it's slightly colored.

Like many buildings in downtown Seattle, the DocuSign Tower is built on a hill. This means the entrance on the east side, facing Third Avenue, is about two stories higher than the entrance on the west side, facing Second Avenue.

On the west side, there are outdoor escalators that go up the hill. These escalators were once covered in clear tubes. In 2006, they were updated with a new, simpler glass roof. The building also has three levels of outdoor areas where people can relax.

From Old to New: The Building's Site History

Before the DocuSign Tower was built, an older 12-story building stood on the same spot. This building was called the Olympic National Life building. It was built in 1906 and was also known as the American Savings Bank or the Empire Building.

On February 28, 1982, the old Olympic National Life building was taken down using a method called implosion. This is when explosives are used to make a building collapse in on itself in a controlled way. It was the first time a building in downtown Seattle was demolished by implosion.
