Dody Goodman (born Dolores Goodman on October 28, 1914 – died June 22, 2008) was a talented American actress. She was known for her unique, high-pitched voice and her funny, often ditzy, characters. You might remember her as the secretary Blanche Hodel in the popular movies Grease and Grease 2. She also voiced Miss Miller in the Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon series and played Punky's teacher on Punky Brewster.

Her Early Life
Dody Goodman was born Dolores Goodman in Columbus, Ohio. Her parents were Leona and Dexter Goodman. She had a sister named Rose and a brother named Dexter Jr. Dody went to North High School in Columbus, Ohio, and is even a member of their Hall of Fame! She studied acting at Northwestern University and also trained in ballet at two famous schools: the School of American Ballet and the Metropolitan Opera Ballet School.
On Stage
Dody Goodman started her acting career on Broadway in 1941. She became well-known for her dancing in musicals like High Button Shoes (1947) and Wonderful Town (1953). In 1955, she was a big hit in an Off Broadway show called Shoestring Revue with a funny song.
She also starred in other Off-Broadway shows, including a musical called Parade in 1960. Dody played Princess Winifred in a 1961 show called Once Upon a Mattress. She returned to Broadway in 1974 to perform in Lorelei with the famous actress Carol Channing. People often called Dody "the darling of dinner theaters" because she was so popular in many different stage productions.
On Television
Dody Goodman became very popular on TV by acting like a funny, slightly confused person. This made her a favorite guest on The Tonight Show with host Jack Paar in the 1950s. She would often say funny, unexpected things that made people laugh.
After her time on The Tonight Show, Dody appeared on many other talk shows and game shows. Her career really took off when she played the mother in the TV series Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman. She was also a regular on The Mary Tyler Moore Hour in 1979. Dody had many other TV roles, including on Diff'rent Strokes, Search for Tomorrow, and Texas. She was also the voice of Miss Miller, the guardian of The Chipettes, in the Alvin and the Chipmunks cartoon series and the movie The Chipmunk Adventure.
Awards and Recognition
Dody Goodman was recognized for her talent. In 1958, she was nominated for an Emmy Award. This award was for her great performance as a comedienne on TV.
Later, in 1984, her work in a play called Ah, Wilderness! earned her a nomination for the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Featured Actress in a Play.
Her Later Years
Dody Goodman passed away on June 22, 2008, at the age of 93. She died of natural causes in Englewood, New Jersey. Dody never married, but she had a large family who survived her, including many nieces, nephews, and their children.
