A Look Back: Dollarville's History
Dollarville began in 1882. It grew around a lumber mill and a general store. These were owned by a company called the American Lumber Company.
How Dollarville Got Its Name
The community was named after a man named Robert Dollar. He was the general manager of the lumber company. Robert Dollar later became very successful in the shipping business.
The Railroad and Post Office
Dollarville was once an important stop on the Detroit, Mackinac and Marquette Railroad. This railroad helped connect the community to other places.
A post office opened in Dollarville on August 17, 1883. It closed on October 14, 1903. But it reopened for a while from June 3, 1904, until April 30, 1919.
