About Dom Joly's Early Life
Dominic John Romulus Joly was born in Beirut, Lebanon, on November 15, 1967. His parents were British. His father, John Joly, owned a business that his family had run for a long time. Dom grew up with a nanny. He later reconnected with his father before his father passed away in 2011.
Dom went to school in Lebanon at Brummana High School. Then, he moved to England for more schooling. He attended Dragon School in Oxford and Haileybury College near Hertford. He later studied politics at the School of Oriental and African Studies in London. Dom can speak several languages, including Arabic, Czech, and French, besides English.

After finishing university, Dom Joly worked as a diplomat in Prague for a short time.

Trigger Happy TV - His Big Hit
Dom Joly became very famous for his show Trigger Happy TV. This show used hidden cameras to play funny pranks on people. The original series aired on Channel 4 from 2000 to 2003.
Later, a version of Trigger Happy TV was made for American audiences. Dom Joly was not very happy with this version, even though he made a small appearance in it. After the show's success, Dom Joly moved to the BBC.

In 2010, Dom Joly published a travel book called The Dark Tourist: Sightseeing in the World's Most Unlikely Holiday Destinations. In this book, he visited places that have seen great sadness or tragedy, like Chernobyl and the Killing Fields of Cambodia. He also visited his childhood home in Lebanon and North Korea.
His second travel book, Scary Monsters and Super Creeps, came out in 2012. For this book, he traveled the world looking for mysterious creatures like Bigfoot and the Yeti.
