The Life of Dominic Sonic

Dominique Garreau, known as Dominic Sonic, started his music journey early. At just 16, he left school to join a punk band called Kalashnikov. Punk music is a fast and energetic style of rock. He played with them for six years and performed in over 300 concerts!

In 1987, Dominic began working on his first solo album. It was called Cold Tears and came out two years later. A Belgian music company, Crammed Discs, released it. The album was very popular, selling more than 40,000 copies across Europe. He also released a smaller album, an EP, called A s'y méprendre, with the same company.

Later, a big record company called Barclay bought his music contract. In 1991, Barclay released another album by Dominic. After an accident during a tour in Hungary, Dominic had to stay in a hospital for six months. This break led to the release of his album Les Leurres in 1994.

Dominic Sonic left Barclay in 1996. He then released an album called Essais 94-96 through his own music label. It was distributed by Musidisc, which later became part of Universal Music Group.

In 2002, Dominic Sonic was a special guest at the Rencontres Trans Musicales festival in Rennes, where he performed with the famous band The Stooges. He attended many other music festivals throughout the 2000s. On October 15, 2007, he released his fifth album, Phalanstère # 7.

In January 2008, he performed in a play called La loi des pauvres gens in Nantes. The play was named after one of his songs. In 2009, Dominic Sonic performed with guitarist Vincent Sizorn to celebrate 20 years since his Cold Tears album was released.

Between 2010 and 2014, he was part of a group called Nus that reunited. He and the group also started AK47 Blues Rendez-vous, which released an album called The Octopus. While working on another artist's album, Dominic Sonic released his own album, Vanités#6, in Spring 2015.

Dominic Sonic passed away on July 23, 2020, in Les Lilas, France.
