Dominique Gauzin-Müller (born in 1960) is a French architect and writer. She is known for her work on buildings made from wood and for her focus on sustainable architecture. This means designing buildings that are good for the environment. She has written many books about these topics. Her books have been translated into different languages. Some of her famous books include Construire avec le Bois (1999) and L'architecture écologique (2001). She also wrote 25 maisons en bois (2003) and 25 maisons écologique (2005).

Early Life and Learning

Dominique Gauzin-Müller was born in Vincennes, a town near Paris, France. She grew up in Saint-Céré. She went to the École d'architecture Paris-Tolbiac to study architecture. There, she learned from Roland Schweizer, who was an expert in building with wood.

In 1984, she earned her first degree in architecture. The next year, she got a special master's degree in wooden building. In 1983, she also attended a special class in Oslo about energy and the environment. Since 1986, she has lived in Stuttgart, Germany, with her husband.

Her Work and Achievements

Dominique Gauzin-Müller first worked as an architect for a few years. After that, she spent most of her time writing and teaching. She taught at the University of Stuttgart from 1988 to 1989.

In 1990, she published her book Le Bois dans la Construction. This book was about using wood in building. From 1998 to 2004, she helped edit a big book series about the architect Jean Prouvé.

Since 1994, she has organized many trips for French architects and engineers. These trips were to Germany and Vorarlberg (a region in Austria). They went to learn about new building ideas.

Writing and Teaching

Dominique Gauzin-Müller has written essays for many other books. These include "Une Terre humaine" and "Développement durable dans l’architecture et l’urbanisme". She also wrote for the Neufert (a famous architecture handbook) and the Encyclopædia Universalis.

She writes for many architecture magazines across Europe. These include D'Architectures (France) and Deutsche Bauzeitung (Germany). She also gives talks all over Europe. She has been invited to speak at universities in places like Vienna and La Coruña, Spain.

From 2004 to 2007, she taught at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Nancy. Today, she is a professor at the École Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Strasbourg.

Since 2007, she has been the main editor of écologiK. This is a French architecture magazine that focuses on sustainable building and urban planning.
