Donald Duck's Playground is an educational video game released in 1984. In this game, players control Donald Duck. His main goal is to earn money. He uses this money to buy fun playground items for his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie.

To earn money, Donald can choose to work at four different places. Each job shift can last from one to eight minutes. During this time, Donald tries to earn as much money as he can. The game teaches players about counting money and making change.

Donald's Jobs: Earning Money

Donald has a special task at each job. He earns a certain amount for each part of his work. The game has different difficulty levels. On the Intermediate level, his wages are doubled. On the Advanced level, his wages are tripled.

The Greengrocer's Shop

At the greengrocer's, Donald sorts vegetables. These vegetables are thrown to him from the back of a pickup truck. He needs to put them into three different boxes. One box is for watermelons, one for pumpkins, and one for cantaloupes.

Each vegetable is thrown from a random distance. Donald must catch it and put it in the correct box. If he fails to catch a vegetable or puts it in the wrong box, it gets squashed. This means he earns no money for that vegetable. Donald earns 1 cent for each vegetable he sorts correctly.

The Toy Shop

At the toy shop, Donald places toys on a shelf. The toys come to him on a conveyor belt. He must put them in the correct spot on the shelf.

About every 80 seconds, a train passes by on a nearby railroad. If the shelf is open when the train passes, toys will fall off. This means Donald loses money. So, Donald must close the shelf when the train is coming. Donald earns 5 cents for each toy he places correctly on the shelf.

The Railroad Station

At the railroad, Donald works at a switch console. His job is to set the switches on the tracks in the right order. This helps cargo trains pick up their cargo from the correct cars. Then, the trains deliver the cargo to the right city. Donald earns 15 cents for each delivery he routes correctly.

The Airport Cargo Area

At the airport, Donald sorts cargo. The cargo arrives on a conveyor belt. Each item has a three-letter code. This code is a short name for a U.S. airport. Donald must throw the cargo into a passing cargo van that has the matching code.

Near the end of his shift, the airplane leaves. Donald then has to stop sorting cargo. Donald earns 3 cents for each item he sorts correctly.

The Playground: Spending Your Earnings

After earning money, Donald can spend his wages. He buys different items for a playground. These items include things like ladders and swings. His nephews can then play on this playground.

Donald buys these items from three different stores. When buying, players must count the correct amount of coins and bills. If the total is not an even amount, they also need to count the correct change.

Each item Donald buys is placed in a specific spot on the playground. Donald can go across the railroad tracks to call one of his nephews. When he does this, the player character switches from Donald to his nephew. The nephew can then play on the new playground equipment.
