About Donald L. Graham
Donald L. Graham was born in 1948 in Salisbury, North Carolina. He went to West Virginia State College and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1971. Later, he studied law at the Moritz College of Law at Ohio State University. He received his Juris Doctor degree in 1974. A Juris Doctor is a special degree that allows someone to practice law.
Early Career and Military Service
After law school, Mr. Graham taught at the University of Maryland University College. He was an adjunct instructor from 1975 to 1977. He also served in the United States Army Judge Advocate General's Corps. This is a group of lawyers who work for the Army. He was a captain in the Army from 1974 to 1979. He also served in the Army Reserve JAG Corps from 1983 to 1991.
From 1979 to 1984, Mr. Graham worked as an assistant United States attorney. This means he was a lawyer who represented the U.S. government in court. He worked for the Southern District of Florida. After that, he worked as a private lawyer in Miami from 1984 to 1991.
Becoming a Federal Judge
In 1991, President George H. W. Bush chose Donald L. Graham to become a federal judge. He was nominated to the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. This court needed a new judge after Judge Sidney Aronovitz left.
