Donald M. Gordon Chinguacousy Park, often called Chinguacousy Park, is a huge park in Brampton, Ontario. It covers about 100 acres, which is like 75 football fields! You can find it in the Bramalea area of Brampton. The park is surrounded by Queen Street East, Bramalea Road, and Central Park Drive.

The park's name, Chinguacousy, means "Young Pine River." It honors Donald M. Gordon, who helped start many parks and fun programs in Brampton. It also remembers Chief Shinguacose, a Chippewa leader who passed away in 1858.

Park History: How Chinguacousy Park Began

In 1970, the City of Brampton bought a 100-acre farm. This farm belonged to the Crawford family. The city wanted to build a big park for everyone to enjoy. They used money from new housing developments to pay for the land and build the park's facilities.

Park Upgrades: Making Chinguacousy Even Better

In 2014, the Canadian government, the Ontario government, and the local Peel Region government all helped out. Each group gave $8.2 million to the park. This money was used to make big renovations and build new attractions. These upgrades made the park even more exciting for visitors.

The park has many sports facilities. You can try curling, or play tennis on special winterized courts. There are also beach volleyball courts for sunny days. If you like water, you can go boating. The park also has areas for skiing and track-and-field events.

For more casual fun, you can play mini-putt golf. There are also beautiful formal gardens and a greenhouse to explore.

Water Fun and Play Areas

When it's warm, kids love the splash pad. There's also a big children's playground with lots of equipment. In winter 2017, a new skating trail opened. It's like a canal and is about 2,000 square meters big. In the summer, this trail turns into a pretty reflective fountain.

Animals and Adventure

You can even enjoy pony rides at the park! There's also a petting zoo and a barn where you can meet friendly animals. If you like bikes or skateboards, there's a special BMX/skateboard park just for you.

Mount Chinguacousy: Brampton's Ski Hill

Mount Chinguacousy is a small hill inside the park. It's a great spot for alpine skiing and snowboarding. You can find it near Bramalea Road and Central Park Drive.

The hill has a "magic carpet" ski lift. This is like a moving walkway that takes you up the hill. There are beginner slopes on both sides of the lift. At the bottom, you'll find a chalet and a rental shop. The hill is about 21 meters high, and its longest run is about 188 meters. It has machines that make snow, so you can ski even if there's no natural snow. You can also go night skiing! This is the only ski hill in Brampton.

Did you know Mount Chinguacousy is man-made? It was built using dirt dug out from the basements of many early Bramalea houses.

Park Events: Always Something Happening

Chinguacousy Park is a hub for exciting events. There's always something fun going on!

During the summer, the Brampton Parks and Recreation Department offers many summer camps. These camps are for children and teens. This is a 5-kilometer adventure race for people who like a challenge. In the summer, you can also enjoy outdoor movie nights under the stars.
