The Dongpo Academy or Dongpo Shuyuan (Chinese: 东坡书院; pinyin: Dōngpō Shūyuàn) is a very old and special school located in Hainan, China. It was first built way back in 1098. This academy was created to honor a famous writer and poet from the Song dynasty named Su Dongpo. He was sent to live here for a while, far away from his home.

What is Dongpo Academy?
The Dongpo Academy was a place where people could study and learn. It was also a way to remember Su Dongpo and his amazing work. The academy is near a town called Zhonghe, which is about 40 kilometers from Danzhou city.
Who Was Su Dongpo?
Su Dongpo was a brilliant writer, poet, and artist who lived a very long time ago during the Song dynasty in China. He was also an important government official. Sometimes, people in power didn't agree with his ideas. Because of this, he was sent away from the capital city to live in different places, including Hainan. This is called being "exiled."
A Place for Learning
While Su Dongpo was in Hainan, he lived and taught lessons in a building called the Zaijiutang (载酒堂 Zài jiǔ táng). This building is still part of the Dongpo Academy today. He shared his knowledge and wisdom with students there.
