Donnell Whittenburg (born August 18, 1994) is an American artistic gymnast. He is a member of the United States men's national artistic gymnastics team.

About Donnell Whittenburg

Donnell Whittenburg was born on August 18, 1994, in Baltimore, Maryland. He went to Edgewood High School. Later, he studied at a local community college and DeVry University.

When he was younger, Abdul Mammeri was his coach. Donnell decided to focus on gymnastics. He moved to Colorado to train at the United States Olympic Training Center. There, he was coached by Vitaly Marinich.

Gymnastics Career Highlights

Donnell Whittenburg is known for being very strong on the still rings, vault, and floor exercise. He has won many medals throughout his career.

World Championships Success

At the 2014 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, Donnell helped the American team win a bronze medal. He performed well on floor, rings, vault, and parallel bars.

In 2015, at the 2015 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, he won an individual bronze medal on the vault. He finished just behind gymnasts from North Korea and Romania. He also made it to the finals for the still rings event.

Other Major Competitions

Donnell has also done very well in other big competitions.

  • In 2017, he won a gold medal in the all-around competition at the London World Cup.
  • At the Koper World Challenge Cup in Slovenia, he won gold on parallel bars. He also earned silver medals on floor and vault.
  • In 2022, he placed second in the all-around competition at the U.S. National Championships. He was the best on rings and second best on vault.
  • At the 2022 World Challenge Cup in Paris, he won bronze medals on both parallel bars and rings.

Pan American Games Achievements

Donnell has been very successful at the Pan American Games.

  • In 2015, he won a gold medal with the team in Toronto. He also earned silver medals on floor, rings, and vault.
  • In 2023, he won two more gold medals in Santiago. One was with the team, and the other was for his performance on the still rings. He also won a bronze medal in the all-around competition.

Recent Competitions

In 2024, Donnell competed in the 2024 U.S. National Gymnastics Championships and the U.S. Olympic Trials. He placed seventh in the all-around at both events. He was chosen as a replacement athlete for the 2024 Summer Olympics. This means he was ready to step in if another team member needed to withdraw.
