Donnellson (pronounced DON-əl-sən) is a small city located in Lee County, Iowa, in the United States. In 2020, about 885 people lived there. It is part of the larger Fort Madison-Keokuk area. Donnellson is known as "The Heart of Lee County."

History of Donnellson
Donnellson started when H. A. Summers surveyed the land for Esten Donnell. The city was named after Esten Donnell. His son, W. R. Donnell, helped build the first structures. He also worked as the local railroad agent and postmaster.
The town began to grow after the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad built tracks through it. Donnellson officially became a city on October 25, 1892. At that time, it covered about 120 acres and had around 200 residents.
In 1897, Donnellson got its first firehouse. The city grew quickly between 1900 and 1910. During this time, a telephone system, a cheese factory, an electric light plant, and a water system were all built.
The first school in Donnellson was built in 1915. Today, students from Donnellson and nearby communities like Argyle and Montrose attend schools in the Central Lee Community School District. This district brought all its schools together in one location in 1986.
Donnellson is also home to the Lee County Speedway. This is a dirt oval racetrack that is about 3/8 of a mile long.
