Dontae' Antijuaine Jones (born June 2, 1975) is an American former professional basketball player. He played for the Boston Celtics in the National Basketball Association (NBA).

Dontae' Jones's College Basketball Career

Dontae' Jones started his college basketball journey at Northeast Mississippi Community College. He became a star player there. He holds the school records for most points, rebounds, and blocked shots. His jersey number, 32, was even retired by the school.

After two successful seasons, he moved to the Mississippi State Bulldogs program. He finished his college career with the Bulldogs.

Big Wins in College

In 1996, Dontae' led Mississippi State to their first-ever SEC Tournament championship. He was named the most valuable player (MVP) of the tournament. His team even beat the top-ranked University of Kentucky in the final game.

That same year, he helped Mississippi State reach the NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four. This is a huge achievement in college basketball. He also earned a Regional MVP award along the way. In 2016, Dontae' Jones and his 1995–96 Bulldog teammates were honored. They were inducted into the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame.

Joining the NBA

Dontae' Jones was a top player coming out of Mississippi State University. The New York Knicks picked him as the 21st overall player in the 1996 NBA draft.

However, he did not play any games for the Knicks in the 1996–97 season. This was because of a foot injury. Before the 1997–98 NBA season began, he was traded. He went to the Boston Celtics along with Walter McCarty, John Thomas, and Scott Brooks. In return, the Knicks received Chris Mills.

Playing Basketball Around the World

After his time in the NBA, Dontae' Jones continued his basketball career. He played for the Memphis Houn'Dawgs in the American Basketball Association (ABA).

He also played basketball in many different countries. These included Greece, Turkey, Italy, Korea, and China. He gained a lot of experience playing in various leagues around the globe.

The Story Behind His Name

Dontae' Jones has a unique spelling for his first name. His mother intentionally added an apostrophe at the end. She did this to make his name special and stand out.

Helping Young Basketball Players

Dontae' Jones now uses his basketball knowledge to help others. He works as the program director at the Nashville Youth Basketball Association (NYBA). This organization helps young people in the middle Tennessee area. It also helps youth in Nashville improve their basketball skills. He is known as a highly respected coach for young players.
