Doppelgänger facts for kids
A doppelgänger is a German word that means "double-goer." It's used in English to describe someone who looks exactly like another person, almost like an "evil twin."
In old stories and folklore, seeing a doppelgänger of a family member or friend was believed to be a sign that they might get sick or be in danger. If you saw your own doppelgänger, it was often believed to be a sign of great danger or even death.
Some myths explain doppelgängers as magical creations, perhaps from a curse or other magic. These magical doubles are usually, but not always, seen as bad or harmful. Today, doppelgängers often appear in books, movies, and other fiction as interesting parts of their stories.
