Dora Elizabeth Drake (born in March 1993) is an American community leader and Democratic politician. She is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Since December 2024, she has been a member of the Wisconsin Senate. She represents Wisconsin's 4th Senate district. Before this, she served two terms in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 2021 to 2024.

About Dora Drake's Early Life and Education
Dora Drake grew up in the Graceland neighborhood of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She went to Eastbrook Academy in nearby Glendale, Wisconsin. She finished school there in 2011.
College Years at Marquette University
Dora was accepted into Marquette University's Educational Opportunities Program. In 2015, she earned her bachelor's degree. Her studies focused on Social Welfare and Justice. After college, she worked for JusticePoint. This group helps people involved with the justice system. They work to improve the system.
Dora Drake's Journey in Politics
Dora Drake became active in local politics through her community work. She managed a school board campaign in 2019. This was for Shyla Deacon in Milwaukee Public Schools. Deacon lost the election by a very small number of votes.
Starting Her Own Campaign
After the campaign, Drake worked at the Center for Self Sufficiency. This center helps people who have been in prison. It supports them with family and returning to society. A year later, Dora Drake decided to run for the Wisconsin State Assembly. She ran in the 11th district. She had support from Emerge Wisconsin. This group helps Democratic women run for office.
Winning Her First Election
The 11th district seat was open. The previous representative, Jason Fields, did not run again. Dora Drake won the Democratic primary election. She received 47% of the votes. In the general election, she won by a large amount. She defeated Republican Orlando Owens. She was one of 16 new members elected to the Assembly in 2020.
Moving to the Wisconsin Senate
In February 2024, Dora Drake announced she would run for the Wisconsin Senate. This was for the Wisconsin's 4th Senate district. The previous senator, Lena Taylor, had resigned. A special election was set for July 2024. Drake faced another Democratic state representative, LaKeshia Myers, in the primary. Drake won this primary election on July 2, 2024. She then ran unopposed in the special election on July 30. She also won the August 13 primary for a new four-year term.
Strategic Timing of Taking Office
Dora Drake could have started her Senate term right after winning in July 2024. However, she waited until December 19, 2024. This allowed her to finish her term in the Assembly. This careful timing helped Democrats. It prevented Republicans from having a very strong majority in the Legislature for a short time.
Dora Drake's Personal Life
Dora Drake is the oldest of eight children in her family. She is also a worship singer. She sings at New Horizons Integrated Ministries in Milwaukee.
