Dorothy Lee Campbell (born March 24, 1883 – died March 20, 1945) was an amazing Scottish golfer. She was the first woman ever to win the top amateur golf championships in three different countries. Dorothy won the American, British, and Canadian Women's Amateur titles. This made her a true golf legend!

Early Life and Golf Beginnings

Dorothy was born in North Berwick, Scotland, into a family that loved golf. She started playing golf when she was very, very young, at just 18 months old! Within a few years, she was already playing against her sisters.

When she was 13, in 1896, Dorothy joined the North Berwick Ladies Golf Club. She was so good that she could easily play against adult members. She learned a lot from a famous golf teacher named Ben Sayers. She practiced her golf skills on the North Berwick West Links course.

In 1909, Dorothy Campbell played in the British Ladies Amateur golf tournament. This event was held at the Royal Birkdale Golf Club. During one match, she forgot to tell the officials her score. They almost disqualified her! But she was allowed to keep playing. Dorothy went on to win the championship, beating Florence Hezlet.

Winning this tournament changed her life. She was invited to play in America. After that, she only visited Britain. She moved to Canada in 1910. A few years later, she moved to the United States for good. She became an American citizen.

In 1911, Dorothy won the British Ladies Amateur again. This time, she beat Violet Hezlet, who was Florence's sister.

Dorothy was very good at a special shot called a "run-up shot." She used a club she called "Thomas." She could hit the ball from far away and get it very close to the hole. Once, she even made a record by taking only 19 putts for 18 holes! She also won a championship by chipping the ball into the hole from 40 yards away, twice!
