Douglas Wilson (born January 7, 1999) is an American professional basketball player. He is known for his strong play as a power forward. He played college basketball for the Kirkwood CC Eagles and the South Dakota State Jackrabbits before starting his pro career.
Early Life
Douglas Wilson was born in Evanston, Illinois. He grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. He went to Herbert Hoover High School. In his senior year, he scored about 17.9 points per game. He also grabbed 309 rebounds. He was named All-Central Iowa Metro League for his great performance.
College Basketball Journey
Wilson started his college basketball journey at Kirkwood Community College. As a freshman, he averaged 14.1 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. He was named a Second Team All-American by the NJCAA. After his freshman year, he decided to transfer to South Dakota State.
In his second year at Kirkwood, he averaged 21 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He was named a first-team NJCAA All-American. He also won the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference Player of the Year award. He was even named the DII Player of the Year. He helped lead his team to win the NJCAA Division II national championship.
Wilson quickly became a starter at power forward for the South Dakota State Jackrabbits. In his first season with the team, he was named the Summit League Men's Basketball Player of the Year. He also won the Newcomer of the Year award. He earned First Team All-Summit League honors. He averaged 18.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game that season.
As a senior, Wilson averaged 16.7 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game. He earned Second Team All-Summit League honors. He chose to play an extra season because the NCAA allowed it due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2022, Wilson was named to the First Team All-Summit League again.
Playing Professionally
In October 2022, Wilson signed with ALM Evreux Basket in France. However, he never played for the team. He had a health check that showed a possible concern, so he couldn't play right away. But after doctors gave him the all-clear, he was able to sign with Álftanes. This team plays in the Icelandic Úrvalsdeild karla league. He joined Álftanes in June 2023.
