Dragon Island is a small island located off the northeast coast of Great Barrier Island in New Zealand. It's about 95 kilometers (59 miles) northeast of Auckland. The island is privately owned and sits just outside Harataonga Bay.

This island helps protect Harataonga Bay. It blocks strong winds and storms coming from the east and southeast. This keeps the water in the bay calmer. Dragon Island is also sheltered by a larger island called Rakitu Island to its north. The island used to be a farm, but now no one lives there, and it has grown wild again.
