Dreamland is a small, unincorporated community. It is located on the Keweenaw Peninsula in Michigan. This area is also known as Copper Island. Dreamland is part of Torch Lake Township in Houghton County. This county is in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It is often described as being near or within Bootjack. However, Dreamland is its own separate place. The community mainly consists of the Dreamland Inn. This inn is also known as the Dreamland Bar & Restaurant. It also has some docks on Torch Bay.
History of Dreamland
Dreamland was founded in 1913. This happened when Norbert Sarazin built a resort there. The resort had a bar and hotel rooms. These rooms were often used by loggers. They stayed there when they could not get home in the winter.
A dance pavilion was also built. It was very popular with local people. Sadly, it burned down in 1921. The bar at the resort closed for a period. It then reopened in 1947. In the past, logging was the main business in Dreamland.
Geography of Dreamland
Climate in Dreamland
Dreamland has a humid continental climate. This means it has warm summers and cold winters. Winters in Dreamland are usually long and very snowy. This is because of something called lake effect snow. Lake effect snow happens when cold air moves over warmer lake waters. This picks up moisture and creates a lot of snow.
