Discovering Dreamland Villa
Dreamland Villa is located in the sunny state of Arizona. It sits about 1,371 feet (418 m) above sea level. Imagine living in a place where the sun shines often!
How Dreamland Villa Started
The idea for Dreamland Villa began in 1959. A person named Ross Farnsworth started developing this community. It grew quite quickly. Within just 15 years, about 3,000 homes had been built there. It became a popular spot for people looking to retire.
Rules for Residents
In 1978, the nearby city of Mesa wanted to include Dreamland Villa within its city limits. This process is called annexation. However, the people living in Dreamland Villa did not want this to happen. They preferred to stay independent.
A year later, in 1979, the residents made another important decision. About 80 percent of them supported a special rule for their area. This rule created a "senior citizen zoning area." This meant that only people over 50 years old could live there. This rule helped keep Dreamland Villa a peaceful community for older adults. At that time, around 5,200 people called Dreamland Villa home.
