Kids Encyclopedia Facts

Drew Ray Tanner (born in 1992) is a Canadian actor. He is best known for playing Fangs Fogarty on the TV show Riverdale.

Early Life and Inspiration

Drew Ray Tanner was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. When he was two years old, his family moved to Aldergrove. He grew up there with his mother, who is a teacher, and his older brother.

Drew's grandfather often did magic tricks. He would include Drew in his shows when Drew was a child. This sparked Drew's interest in performing and entertainment.

In middle school, Drew joined a local improv group. This helped him learn to act without a script. He went to Aldergrove Community Secondary School and later W. J. Mouat Secondary School. Drew also played football. In school, he acted in a play called The Crucible, playing the main character, John Proctor. As a teenager, Drew also started a rap music group with a friend.

After high school, Drew decided not to play football in college. Instead, he worked at a tire plant. This job helped him save money to travel to Vancouver for acting auditions.

Acting Career Highlights

In 2015, Drew auditioned for Riverdale. He tried out for the roles of Jughead Jones and Reggie Mantle, but he did not get either part.

In 2016, Drew visited Rocko's Diner in Mission, British Columbia. This diner is famous for its milkshakes and was used as a filming spot for Riverdale. Seeing the long line of fans there made Drew want to be on the show even more.

When Riverdale was casting for its second season, Drew auditioned again. He tried out for the role of Sweet Pea. He also auditioned for the character of Fangs Fogarty. Drew joined the cast of Riverdale as Fangs Fogarty in 2017. His character, Fangs, became the boyfriend of Kevin Keller.

At first, Drew was only supposed to be in a few episodes. But his character became very popular. He appeared more and more until season four. In season five, which aired in 2021, Drew became a main actor on the show.

Drew also loves music. He formed a music group called "These Girls These Boys" with his Riverdale co-star Vanessa Morgan. They released their first song, "Sleep When I'm Dead," in May 2020.

In 2019, Drew acted in the Netflix movie Work It. He played the romantic lead in the film. For this role, Drew had to do a lot of improvisational acting, which means making up lines on the spot.
