Vanessa Morgan Mziray (born March 23, 1992) is a Canadian actress. She is well-known for her roles in popular TV shows and movies. You might know her as Toni Topaz in the teen drama series Riverdale, where she was a main character from 2017 to 2023. She also played Sarah in the film My Babysitter's a Vampire and its TV series. Before that, she was Amanda Pierce in the teen comedy The Latest Buzz.

Vanessa Morgan's Early Life and Talents

Vanessa Morgan was born in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Her mother is from Scotland, and her father is from Tanzania. Vanessa is the youngest of three children. She has an older sister and an older brother.

Vanessa started singing when she was only six years old. She performed at many community events and helped raise money for charities. In 1999, a Hollywood agent noticed her talent. She even won a scholarship to an acting academy in Hollywood! That same year, she won the Junior Miss America pageant. She also won first place for her singing at the National Date Festival. In 2000, she won another singing award at the African-American Vocal Competition. Vanessa was also a competitive tennis player when she was younger. She finished high school in 2010 and later studied philosophy at Queen's University.

Vanessa Morgan's Acting Career

Vanessa Morgan began her acting journey in 2000 with a role in the TV movie A Diva's Christmas Carol. She also appeared in the film Frankie & Alice in 2010.

Becoming a Teen TV Star

Vanessa became widely known in 2007 for her role as Amanda Pierce in the teen comedy series The Latest Buzz. She even sang the theme song for the show! In 2010, she played Marion Hawthorne in the Disney Channel movie Harriet the Spy: Blog Wars.

The next year, Vanessa took on the role of Sarah in the film My Babysitter's a Vampire. She continued this role in the TV series of the same name, which was very popular with young viewers. She also appeared in another Disney Channel movie, Geek Charming, in 2011. Later, she had a recurring role in the Disney Channel comedy series A.N.T. Farm.

In 2013, Vanessa made guest appearances in two episodes of Degrassi: The Next Generation.

Major Roles in Teen Dramas

In 2014, Vanessa had a recurring role as Beatrix "Bird" Castro in the MTV show Finding Carter.

A few years later, in 2017, she joined the fantasy drama series The Shannara Chronicles as Lyria for its second season. That same year, Vanessa was cast in the role of Toni Topaz in the CW teen drama series Riverdale. Her character became very popular, and in May 2018, it was announced that she would become a main cast member for the show's third season and beyond.

Other Exciting Projects

Besides acting, Vanessa Morgan also competed in the first season of the reality competition series The Amazing Race Canada. She teamed up with her sister, Celina Mziray, and they finished the race in third place!

Vanessa Morgan's Personal Life

Vanessa Morgan married professional baseball player Michael Kopech in January 2020. They later divorced in 2021. In 2021, Vanessa welcomed her first child, a son. In 2024, she had a daughter. She announced her engagement to Canadian basketball player James Karnik in December 2024.
