Drush (which stands for DRUpal SHell) is a special computer program. It helps people manage and control websites built using a system called Drupal. Think of Drush as a powerful remote control for your Drupal website!

What is Drush?

Drush is a software tool that works from the command line. This means you type commands into a special window on your computer. It helps website developers do many tasks quickly. Instead of clicking through many menus, they can type a short command.

How Drush Helps Websites

Drush makes managing a Drupal website much easier and faster. It can do many things, like:

  • Installing new parts for a website (called modules or themes).
  • Updating the website to the newest version.
  • Clearing out old information that the website doesn't need anymore.
  • Creating backups of the website's data.
  • Running special tests to make sure everything works.

Using Drush saves a lot of time for people who build and maintain Drupal websites. It's especially helpful for big websites with many pages and users.

Who Made Drush?

Drush was first created by a person named Arto Bendiken. This happened in 2007 for an older version of Drupal (Drupal 4.7). Later, in May 2007, Franz Heinzmann helped rewrite and improve Drush for Drupal 5.

Today, Drush is mainly looked after by Moshe Weitzman. He gets help from a team of other developers. These people work together to keep Drush updated and make sure it works well for everyone.
