Dry Creek is a small community in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, United States. It's known as an unincorporated community and a census-designated place (CDP). This means it's a place recognized by the government for counting people, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. In 2020, about 233 people lived there.
Where is Dry Creek Located?
Dry Creek is found in the southeastern part of Cherokee County. It's located southeast of the top part of Tenkiller Ferry Lake. This lake is fed by the Illinois River.
The community is surrounded by water features. Dry Creek, which is an inlet to the lake, forms its northern and eastern borders. To the west, you'll find Oklahoma State Highway 82. Elk Creek borders the community to the southwest.
Highway 82 is an important road for the area. If you go north on Highway 82 for about 14 miles (23 km), you'll reach Tahlequah. Tahlequah is the main city and county seat of Cherokee County. If you head south on the highway for about 22 miles (35 km), you'll connect with Interstate 40 near Vian.
Dry Creek covers a total area of about 8.7 square miles (22.5 km2). Most of this area is land, with only a very small part (about 0.07%) being water.
