Duck Island is a small community in New Jersey. It's not a city or a town by itself. Instead, it's a community that sits right on the edge of two bigger places: Hamilton Township and the city of Trenton. Both of these are in Mercer County.
The community gets its name from a nearby land area called Duck Island. This island stretches out to the southeast from the community. The city of Trenton has made public docks available in Duck Island. These docks are a great spot for fishing.

Plans for a New Facility
In 1996, there was a big discussion about building a new facility in Duck Island. This facility was going to be a trash incinerator. An incinerator is a special building where trash is burned to get rid of it.
Community Decision
The plan for this incinerator was very expensive. It was expected to cost about $260 million. However, the people in charge of Mercer County decided against it. The Board of Chosen Freeholders, which is a group of local leaders, voted to stop the project. This meant the incinerator was never built in Duck Island.
