What Makes Dumsey Meadow Special?

Dumsey Meadow is a "Site of Special Scientific Interest" (SSSI). This means it's a protected area because it has rare wildlife, plants, or geology. Dumsey Meadow is special for its amazing variety of plants and its natural state.

A Home for Nature

This meadow is very natural and full of different kinds of plants. It's not been changed by people, which is why it's so important. Ponies and cattle graze here, helping to keep the meadow healthy and allowing different plants to grow.

Plants You Might See

Look out for creeping cinquefoil, ribwort plantain, and lesser hawkbit. These plants create a rich habitat for insects and other small creatures.

A Glimpse into History

Long ago, people used to refer to different parts of this area with interesting names. There were mentions of "Dumsea Bushes," "Dumsea Corner," and "Dumsea Deep" along the river. The "bushes" might have been a group of willow trees. Sometimes, they were even called "Domesday Bushes," which sounds like something from a very old story!
