Dundee, Missouri facts for kids
Dundee is a small place in Missouri, a state in the United States. It's not a big city with its own government, but more like a neighborhood or a small town without official city leaders. You can find it in the northern part of Franklin County.
Dundee is located on a higher piece of land, away from the flat areas near the Missouri River that sometimes flood. It's right along Missouri Route 100. If you travel about six miles northwest from Washington or five miles east from New Haven, you'll reach Dundee.
The Story of Dundee
Dundee was officially planned and marked out on a map in 1857. This means people decided where streets and buildings would go. It was named after a city called Dundee in Scotland. One of the first people to settle here came from that Scottish city, so they chose the name to remember their home.
In the same year, 1857, a post office opened in Dundee. This post office helped people send and receive letters and packages. It stayed open for many years, until 1908, when it closed down.
