Dunlap is a small village located in Peoria County, Illinois, in the United States. In 2010, about 1,386 people lived there. By 2020, the population grew to 1,603 people. Dunlap is close to the larger city of Peoria. Because Peoria is growing, more people are moving closer to Dunlap. The village itself is quite small, with only a few businesses.

History of Dunlap
How Dunlap Started
The village of Dunlap was officially created on June 12, 1871. It was built on 40 acres of land that belonged to a person named Alva Dunlap. Today, a church called Prospect United Methodist Church stands where his home used to be.
Early Days and Services
Dunlap was first built along the Rock Island Railroad. This railroad was important for travel and trade back then. A post office has been open in Dunlap since 1871, helping people send and receive mail.
Community Services and Government
The Dunlap Volunteer Fire Department and Rescue Squad started in 1899. They help keep the community safe. Police services for the village are provided by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office. The first meeting of the Dunlap Village Council happened on January 7, 1952. The town officially asked to become an incorporated village on February 19, 1952. The building where the Village Council meets today was built in 1995.
