College Football Highlights
Dwayne Slay played college football for the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Even though he was a starter for only one season, he made a big impact. He set a new record in the Big 12 by forcing eight fumbles in one season.
Slay was also one of the best tacklers in the Big 12. Because of his great play, he was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year in 2005. He also made the First-team All-Big 12 Conference. In December 2005, Sports Illustrated named him a First-team All-American. This was a big honor for a Texas Tech player.
Memorable College Game
One game that stood out was against the Kansas State Wildcats on October 15, 2005. Slay had two very strong hits in this game. First, he tackled a Kansas State receiver, which caused a fumble. Later, he hit their quarterback so hard that it caused another fumble. The Red Raiders won this game with a score of 59–20.
Professional Football Career
After college, many experts thought Dwayne Slay would be chosen by an NFL team. He was expected to be picked in the later rounds of the 2006 NFL draft. However, he was not drafted. Instead, he signed a contract as a free agent with the Chicago Bears.
Slay faced some challenges, including a hamstring injury. He was later released by the Bears but then re-signed to their practice squad as a linebacker. After leaving the Bears, he played for the Amarillo Dusters. He then signed with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in Canada. Eventually, he left professional football.
