Early Life and Education
Dwight Ewell grew up in a family with his mother and younger sister. His father was in the United States military. When Dwight was young, his mother moved the family to the North to start her singing career. They moved several times before settling in Newark, New Jersey.
School Days in Newark
Dwight and his sister went to Louise A. Spencer Elementary School in Newark in the mid-1970s. Dwight later joined The Gifted and Talented Program at the same school. This is where he discovered his love for the arts. When he was 9, he started writing plays. His teachers even let him direct them, and other students would perform.
High School and College
At 13, Dwight was accepted into Arts High School in Newark, New Jersey. He graduated in 1986. That fall, he began studying acting at the State University of New York's Theater Arts and Film Divisions. He studied there for four years.
