EGX (which used to be called Eurogamer Expo) is a super fun event for video games. It's like a big show where you can try out new games. This event is put together by Gamer Network. It happens every year in the United Kingdom and Germany.
What is EGX?
EGX is a big event where game developers show off their latest games. You can often play these games before they are released. It's also a place to meet other gamers and learn about the gaming world. Many people who love video games go to EGX.
The Story of EGX
The very first Eurogamer Expo happened in 2008. It was held at the Old Truman Brewery in London. About 4,000 people came to this first event. In 2009, the show took place in two cities. It was held in Leeds and again in London.
For the next five years, from 2010 to 2014, the event was at Earls Court in London. After Earls Court closed, EGX moved to the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) in Birmingham. This was part of a long-term plan.
In 2012, the people behind Eurogamer started a new show called Rezzed. This new event focused on PC games and games made by smaller, independent companies. The first Rezzed event was in Brighton. Later that year, the main Eurogamer Expo also added a Rezzed area.
In 2013, the main Eurogamer Expo changed its name to EGX London. The Rezzed show became EGX Rezzed. But the "EGX London" name didn't last long. After moving to Birmingham, the main show was simply called EGX.
A new EGX event was announced in 2018. This one was held in Berlin, Germany. In 2019, EGX returned to the ExCeL venue in London.
EGX During the Pandemic
In 2020, many events around the world were affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. EGX Rezzed 2020 was first postponed, then cancelled. The main EGX 2020 event was also cancelled. Instead, EGX teamed up with another big gaming event called PAX. They created a 9-day online event called PAX Online X EGX Digital. This allowed gamers to enjoy the show from home.
In 2021, there was good news. EGX Rezzed and EGX planned to return as in-person events. This would happen if it was safe and followed government rules.
Recent EGX Events
In 2021, EGX Rezzed changed its name again. It became EGX Birmingham. It returned to the NEC in Birmingham. The goal was to make the "Rezzed Zone" even bigger. It would show off indie games and also big games from major studios. EGX Birmingham was planned for 2022 but was moved to 2023. This was due to the ongoing health situation at the time.
EGX London 2023 took place at the ExCeL London. It happened from October 12 to 15. TikTok was a main partner for the show. The event also hosted exciting Esports tournaments. Players competed in popular games like Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 6.
