The Eagle Hotel is a historic building in Concord, New Hampshire. It stands at 110 North Main Street. Built in 1851, it has been an important spot in the city for a long time. It's famous as a meeting place for state politicians. This is because it is right across the street from the New Hampshire State House. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. This means it's a special place worth protecting.

The Eagle Hotel's Story

The Eagle Hotel is on the north side of downtown Concord. It is on the east side of North Main Street. You can find it directly across from the New Hampshire State House. This building is five stories tall. It is made of strong stone materials. It has a flat roof. Its side walls are shared with the buildings next to it.

What Does the Hotel Look Like?

On the ground floor, the middle part has four rounded archways. These lead to the main entrance of the hotel. The parts on the sides are used for shops. The second, third, and fourth floors have twelve windows each. These windows are rectangular. They have stone sills at the bottom and stone tops.

The fifth floor is separated by a stone line. It has double windows in each section. The very top of the building has a decorative wall called a parapet. This makes the building look grand.

A Place for Important Meetings

The oldest parts of this large brick building were built in 1851. It was built where the Eagle Coffee House used to be. That coffee house had burned down the year before. When it was first built, the hotel was four stories high. It was also twelve sections wide.

In 1890, the original sloped roof was removed. A fifth floor was then added. This new floor had a flat roof. At that time, a fancy decoration was added to the top. These changes were designed by an architect named Amos P. Cutting. He was from Worcester.

The Eagle Hotel became a place where powerful people in the state met. These were often politicians and other important figures. It was even featured in a popular book from 1906. The novel, called Coniston, showed the hotel as the "Pelican Hotel." This shows how well-known and important the Eagle Hotel was.
