History of Eagle River
The town of Eagle River was started in 1843. It is one of the oldest towns in the Keweenaw area of Michigan. When Keweenaw County was first set up, Eagle River became its main town, also known as the county seat.
Eagle River is located right on the shore of Lake Superior. This made it a great place for ships to stop. In the mid-1800s, it was a very busy port. Many ships came here to pick up copper that was mined in the Keweenaw area.
