Eamonn Patrick Keane (born Edmund Keane; 30 March 1925 – 7 January 1990) was a famous Irish actor. He was known for his work on radio, television, and stage.

Early Life and Acting Start

Eamonn Keane was born in Listowel, County Kerry, Ireland. His birth name was Edmund Keane. He was the brother of the well-known writer, John B. Keane. Eamonn became a member of the Radio Éireann Players. This was a group of actors who performed for the national radio station in Ireland. He appeared in many plays on both radio and television.

Winning Awards for His Acting

Eamonn Keane won several awards for his acting. In 1966, he won a Jacob's Award. This award was for his performance in an RTÉ Television show called When do you die – Friend?. He won a second Jacob's Award in 1972. This time, it was for his great work in radio dramas.

He was also part of another award-winning project in 1982. He was a member of the RTÉ Players. They won an award for their amazing 30-hour radio broadcast of James Joyce's book, Ulysses. Eamonn played the character Simon Dedalus in this long radio show.

Stage and Film Roles

Eamonn Keane also acted in plays and films. In 1965, he appeared in the very first performance of his brother's play, The Field. This play was shown at the Olympia Theatre in Dublin. In that play, he took the role of 'The Bird' O'Donnell. This character was a friend to 'The Bull' McCabe. Later, in 1990, he played the part of Dan Paddy Andy in the film version of The Field.

Later Life and Family

Eamonn Keane passed away at the age of 64. He died in Tralee General Hospital. He was married to Maura Hassett. They had three children named Fergal, Eamon, and Niamh. His oldest son, Fergal Keane, became a well-known journalist and broadcaster.
