William Earl Tatum (born July 26, 1953) is a former professional basketball player from Mount Vernon, New York. He was a tall player, about 6 feet 5 inches (196 cm) and 185 pounds (84 kg), who played as a guard. He was known for his skills in high school and college.
Earl Tatum played high school basketball in Mount Vernon, New York. In 1972, he was chosen as the best large-school player of the year by the New York State Sportswriters Association. After high school, he went on to play college basketball at Marquette University.

Earl Tatum's NBA Career
Earl Tatum was picked by the Los Angeles Lakers in the second round of the 1976 NBA draft. He was the 21st player chosen overall.
Playing for the Lakers
Tatum played for the Lakers from 1976 to 1977. During the 1977 NBA playoffs, which was his only time playing in the postseason, he did very well. He scored an average of 13.6 points and grabbed 4.8 rebounds in 11 games. The Lakers won against the Golden State Warriors but then lost to the Portland Trail Blazers.
Moving to Other Teams
After his time with the Lakers, Earl Tatum played for four other teams in the NBA. He played for the Indiana Pacers, Boston Celtics, and Detroit Pistons. His last season in the NBA was with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 1979–80. He played for five different teams in total during his four years in the league.
