The early mosquitohawk (scientific name: Micromidia convergens) is a cool type of dragonfly. It belongs to a group of dragonflies called Austrocorduliidae. This dragonfly is small to medium-sized. It has a shiny black or metallic green body. You can also spot pale markings on its belly.

This special insect lives only in eastern Australia. This means it is endemic to that area. It loves to hang out near rainforest streams.

What it Looks Like

The early mosquitohawk is a pretty dragonfly. It can be small or medium in size. Its body often looks black or a shiny metallic green. It also has lighter marks on its abdomen, which is the long part of its body.

Like all dragonflies, it has two pairs of wings. These wings help it fly super fast. They also help it catch tiny insects in the air.

Where it Lives

This dragonfly is found only in eastern Australia. It is a native species there. You can usually find it near rainforests. It especially likes streams that flow through these forests. These streams provide a perfect home for young dragonflies. They also offer a good hunting ground for adult dragonflies.

Its Scientific Family

Scientists sometimes debate which family this dragonfly belongs to. It is currently placed in the Austrocorduliidae family. However, some experts think it might fit better in the Synthemistidae or Corduliidae families. This kind of discussion is normal in science. It helps us understand how different species are related.
