East Bowral is a suburb in New South Wales, Australia. It is located about 2 kilometers (1.2 miles) east of the town of Bowral. This area is part of the beautiful Southern Highlands region.

Even though East Bowral is officially a "gazetted locality" and "state suburb," people often think of it as a specific housing area. This area stretches from Old South and Boardman roads to the Bong Bong Picnic Race Club. However, the official suburb boundaries are actually further south. This means the East Bowral Community Centre and the famous Scottish Arms tavern are just outside the official suburb.

In 2011, the population of East Bowral was 1,581 people. It's interesting to note that in 2006, the population was reported as 2,457. The difference is because the boundaries used for counting the population were changed.

Fun Things to Do in East Bowral

East Bowral has several cool places and activities to explore.

Horse Racing at Bong Bong

The historic Bong Bong Picnic Race Club is located in East Bowral. It has a large 170-acre (0.69 square kilometer) horse racetrack called Wyeera. This is a modern racetrack with a clubhouse and a famous hill known as The Hill. The exciting Bong Bong Race Cup is held here every second Wednesday in November.

Events at Wyeera Racetrack

Wyeera is not just for horse racing! It's also used for many other fun events. These include the Bowral Show, where you can see farm animals and local produce. Other events are Opera in the Highlands, the Bowral Garden and Flower Festival, and the Home & Garden Show Bowral. Sometimes, they even have Cinema Under the Stars, where you can watch movies outdoors!

Parks and Nature

East Bowral has many parks and nature reserves. One popular spot is the Hammock Hill Reserve. People often call it the "Wombat Track." This is because many Wombats live in the area, making it a great place to spot wildlife.

In late 2013, the Southern Highlands Botanic Garden officially opened in East Bowral. This garden is still growing, but once it's fully ready, it will be amazing. It's a "cool-climate" garden, which means it's designed for plants that like cooler weather. You'll be able to see a mix of both exotic (from other countries) and native (from Australia) plants there.

East Bowral is also home to the Southern Highlands Christian School.
