History of East Flat Rock

East Flat Rock was once an official town. It became an incorporated town in 1926. This meant it had its own local government and rules.

However, the town's official status changed later. In 1948, the local government decided to end its incorporation. The North Carolina General Assembly confirmed this decision in 1949. Since then, East Flat Rock has been an unincorporated area.

Geography of East Flat Rock

East Flat Rock is located in the southeastern part of Henderson County. It shares borders with other communities. To the west, it is next to the village of Flat Rock. To the northwest, it borders Barker Heights.

Main Roads and Travel

U.S. Route 176 is the main road that goes through East Flat Rock. This road is also called Spartanburg Highway. If you travel northwest on U.S. Route 176, you will reach Hendersonville in about 3 miles (5 km). Hendersonville is the county seat.

If you go southeast on U.S. Route 176, you will reach Saluda in about 6 miles (10 km). Interstate 26 runs along the eastern side of East Flat Rock. You can get onto I-26 from Exit 53, which is Upward Road.

Interstate 26 can take you to larger cities. Traveling north on I-26 leads to Asheville, which is about 27 miles (43 km) away. If you go southeast on I-26, you will reach Spartanburg, South Carolina in about 42 miles (68 km).
