East Grinstead Town Football Club is a football team from East Grinstead, a town in West Sussex, England. They are often called "The Wasps." The club plays its home games at a stadium called East Court. They are currently part of the Isthmian League South East Division league.

Club History: The Wasps' Journey

East Grinstead Town Football Club started way back on May 8, 1890. They played their first official match in 1900. This was when they helped create the Mid-Sussex League.

Early Days and First Wins

The team quickly found success. They won the Mid-Sussex League in the 1901–02 season. They also shared the Sussex Junior Cup in 1908–09. The club joined the Sussex County League in 1920. However, they left and rejoined a few times in the early years.

Ups and Downs in Leagues

In the 1930s, the club moved between different leagues. They won Division Three of the Southern Amateur League in 1931–32. After winning the Mid-Sussex League again in 1936–37, they returned to the Sussex County League. After World War II, they did well, finishing second in their division.

The team stayed in Division One of the Sussex County League for many years. They won the Baldwin Cup in 1951–52. In the late 1970s, they moved down to Division Two. They were promoted back up in the early 1990s.

Becoming East Grinstead Town

In 1997, the club changed its name to East Grinstead Town. They continued to move between divisions. In 2002–03, they were promoted back to Division One. They also won the Sussex RUR Cup in 2003–04. They beat Three Bridges F.C. 4–0 in the final!

The club won Division Two in 2007–08. This earned them another promotion to Division One. In 2013–14, they finished second in Division One. This big achievement meant they moved up to the Isthmian League.

Recent Seasons

In the 2019–20 season, the team was struggling. They were at the bottom of their league. However, the season was stopped because of the coronavirus pandemic. This meant no teams were moved up or down. This helped East Grinstead Town stay in their league.

Home Ground: East Court

For many years, the club played at a place called West Street. They shared this ground with a local cricket team. In 1962, they had to leave West Street. They played at King George's Field for a short time.

In 1967, the club found its new home at East Court. A large bank was built on one side of the pitch for fans to stand. There was also a covered area for shelter. In 1997, bright floodlights were added. Two new stands were built in 2008, giving fans more places to sit.
